Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress party during a rally in Hisar, accusing it of spreading a “votebank ka virus” by opposing the recently amended Waqf Act and neglecting the rights of marginalized communities.
“Congress has become the destroyer of the Constitution,” Modi said, claiming that the party had twisted Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision of equality for political gains. He alleged that instead of empowering Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), Congress treated them like “second-class citizens.”
Modi said the Waqf properties, which span lakhs of hectares across the country, have been misused and benefited land mafias rather than the poor and marginalized. “With the amended Waqf law, the loot of land will now stop. Under this law, the rights of poor Muslims, especially Pasmanda Muslims, and tribal communities will be protected. This is real social justice,” he stated.
The Prime Minister accused Congress of historically undermining Ambedkar, including making him lose elections and attempting to erase his legacy. “Congress even tried to destroy Babasaheb’s ideas forever,” Modi asserted.
Highlighting developmental strides under his government, Modi noted that while only 16% of rural homes had piped water under Congress rule, the figure has now jumped to 80%, with a promise to reach 100%.
Reaffirming support for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Modi criticized Congress for not implementing it, despite its alignment with the Constitution’s secular spirit. “In BJP-led Uttarakhand, we’ve implemented a secular civil code. But Congress continues to oppose it,” he added.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi inaugurated the first direct commercial flight from Hisar to Ayodhya and laid the foundation for a new terminal at Hisar airport, along with launching several development projects.
